The Commerce Tigers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They breezed by Elbert County on the road to the tune of 49-21. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.
Despite the loss, Elbert County still got an impressive performance from Jacari Barnett, who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Commerce's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Elbert County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Commerce will take on Rabun County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rabun County is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Elbert County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Athens Christian at 7:30 p.m. Athens Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
