Potomac School has gone 9-1 against Georgetown Visitation Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Cubs at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Potomac School sitting on four straight wins and Georgetown Visitation Prep on three.
Potomac School is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let St. Andrew's Episcopal get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by ten runs or more this season.
Catherine Stallmer made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stallmer was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Anna Castellano was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Alexis Vaughan was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Potomac School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .800. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Seven must be Georgetown Visitation Prep's lucky number: they beat Holton-Arms with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Cubs beat Holton-Arms by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-4. Surprisingly, this marked the Cubs' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Sami Farmer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ainsley Kovarik, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Caitlin O'Connor, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Potomac School pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Georgetown Visitation Prep, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Both Potomac School and Georgetown Visitation Prep just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Georgetown Visitation Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Potomac School's way against Georgetown Visitation Prep in their previous meeting back in April, as Potomac School made off with a 12-0 victory. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Cubs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
