Baseball Recap: Union Pines Comes Up Short

Union Pines was the 6-5 winner over Scotland when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Union Pines Vikings took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Scotland Fighting Scots on Tuesday. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Fighting Scots since on Tuesday.

Preston Whitaker and Kaeden Sovey did some serious damage despite the final result: Whitaker scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Sovey scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Union Pines is 2-1 when Whitaker posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. David Park also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Union Pines kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Union Pines now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Scotland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Union Pines has already played their next contest, an 8-7 loss against Western Harnett on the 19th. As for Scotland, they will be playing at home against Union Pines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Union Pines is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
