There's no place like home for the Lincoln East Spartans, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They put the hurt on Grand Island with a sharp 73-50 victory on Monday. That's another feather in the cap for Lincoln East, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Lincoln East had a senior duo take command as Quin Weatherholt scored 23 points and Connor Johnson scored 11 points along with four steals. Johnson is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Carter Mick was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Loss or not, Grand Island got some senior leadership from Mukadi Mukoma and Evan McDonald. Mukoma scored 18 points along with two steals, while McDonald. scored 15 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McDonald has scored all season.
Lincoln East's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Grand Island, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lincoln East will take on the Panthers on Friday. As for Grand Island, they will head out on the road to face off against the at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
