5A Northwest Oregon recap September 10, 2013
Kevin Larkin and Keegan Lawrence provided fans with a highlight when they connected against West Albany. The longest such play in 5A Northwest Oregon this season, the connection resulted in 80 yards.
Sandy moved up to 60 from 90 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Pioneers climbed the ranks as a result of beating Wilson 14-6.
Derek Sunkle was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 189 yards as Wilsonville topped the Bulldogs. Collin Etcheberry also contributed to the rushing game with 17 yards on the ground.
Gage Bumgardner put up the best numbers in passing as St. Helens fell to the Wildcats. He finished with 16 completions for 129 yards. Bumgardner's favorite target this week was Bryce Bumgardner, who caught 2 passes for 30 yards.
Lawrence was the best receiver in 5A Northwest Oregon this week as the Bowmen beat West Albany.
Andrew Ripley-Miles was a key player and the best on defense this week as Sherwood bested Randy Nyquist's team. The 5-foot-11 junior.
Sunkle was a passing and rushing force as Wilsonville topped the Lions. Sunkle's key target this week was Nathan Burke, who caught 2 passes for 10 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Adam Guenther's team takes on Parkrose. The Wildcats are currently in first, while the Broncos are in fourth.
Liberty was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Falcons defeated Churchill 38-21.
