If the Primero Bulldogs were riding high off their 50-25 takedown of the Walsenburg Panthers last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Primero was the victim of a tough 60-37 defeat at the hands of Sangre de Cristo on Friday. Primero has not had much luck with Sangre de Cristo recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Primero lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aimee Mincic, who scored 14 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Monarco, who scored ten points.
Primero struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sangre de Cristo racked up 12 assists.
Sangre de Cristo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Palma Enriquez, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Enriquez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Presley Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
Primero has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Sangre de Cristo, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Primero won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Walsh at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Walsh comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Sangre de Cristo, they will be playing at home against Del Norte at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
