The Clay Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Clay's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Perrysburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Clay took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Southview by a score of 3-0.

Darin Fussell

03/29/25 @ Shelby County | 2 |
05/07/25 @ Bowling Green | 1 |
The result came thanks to Darin Fussell's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clay is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Clay saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Eversman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Jacob Weseman was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Perrysburg's offense. They came up short against Anthony Wayne on Thursday, falling 8-0. The Yellow Jackets haven't had much luck with the Generals recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Perrysburg also got a good showing from Andrew Charpie, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Charpie has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
Perrysburg's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Clay, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Perrysburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Clay might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Perrysburg when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
