Softball Game Preview: Richmond Raiders vs. Southern Lee Cavaliers

For the first time this season, Richmond will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will challenge the Southern Lee Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. Richmond is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Richmond lost 24-12 to Montgomery Central on Monday.

Jakayla Steele was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Trinity Lockhart was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Southern Lee, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-13 win over Overhills on Monday.

Maggie Lucas and Sydney Bisson did most of the damage at the plate: Lucas scored five runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Bisson got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lexi Britton, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-5.

Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Southern Lee, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Richmond has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Southern Lee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Richmond suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Southern Lee in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Richmond avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
