Basketball Game Preview: Spanish Fork Dons vs. Salem Hills Skyhawks

Spanish Fork hasn't had much luck against Salem Hills recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spanish Fork Dons will host the Salem Hills Skyhawks at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Spanish Fork's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.

Spanish Fork will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Maple Mountain, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Spanish Fork secured a 59-55 W over Maple Mountain on Friday.

Spanish Fork got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gage Christensen out in front who went 6 for 9 on his way to 19 points and four steals. Christensen's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Cabrera, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Salem Hills ended up a good deal behind Springville on Friday and lost 79-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (58), the Skyhawks still had to take the loss.

Spanish Fork will have to keep a close watch on Lincoln Beck and Jacoby Gustin, a pair of players who had a big impact on Salem Hills' prior game. Beck went 5 of 11 on his way to 17 points, while Gustin posted 14 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Gasser, who had seven points.

This is the second loss in a row for Salem Hills and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for Spanish Fork, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-8.

Spanish Fork and Salem Hills were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but Spanish Fork came up empty-handed after a 64-63 defeat. Thankfully for Spanish Fork, Chase Degraffenried (who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
