Carson Stevens and Joe Ferretti made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Stevens tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ferretti pitched 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Stevens went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Ferretti went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave Ferretti a new career-high.
In other batting news, Zak Balogh was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Greenville narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Sharpsville 7-5.
Like Girard, Greenville also got a great game from a two-way player: Nick Solderich. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Solderich was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Leskovac, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double. Nolan Wilkerson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Girard's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Greenville, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
Girard couldn't quite get it done against Greenville when the teams last played back in May of 2018 as they fell 8-5. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
