The Scott County Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Woodford County Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Scott County is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Scott County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Bullitt East, who was ranked fifth at the time (Scott County was ranked second). The Cardinals' pitcher stepped up to hand the Chargers a 1-0 shutout on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.
The result came thanks to Ada Little's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Scott County's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Katie Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodford County). They put the hurt on Collins with a sharp 17-0 win on Thursday. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.
Kylie Stamper tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.
At the plate, Addie Bryant and Lily Slayton did most of the damage at the plate: Bryant got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Slayton got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Slayton a new career-high. Lyla Pitzer also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Woodford County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Scott County, their record now sits at 15-1.
Scott County skirted past Woodford County 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
