Waynesburg Central is 8-2 against McGuffey since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Raiders will head out to face off against the Highlanders at 4:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Waynesburg Central barely beat Bentworth the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Raiders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bearcats a 14-0 shutout on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Gina Tedrow was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Waynesburg Central got a massive performance out of Kolbi Rostoka, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ellie Makel, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Waynesburg Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive contests.
McGuffey never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Steel Valley last Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Ironmen. The Highlanders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Waynesburg Central, McGuffey also got a great game from a two-way player: Makenna Crothers. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Crothers was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Shrader, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kali Franks also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
McGuffey has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Waynesburg Central, their record now sits at 10-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Waynesburg Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like McGuffey struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
