The Delta Eagles had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They breezed by Centerville on the road to the tune of 67-31. Given Delta's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Centerville is ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Delta got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was D'Amare Hood out in front who scored 17 points along with 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Hood has scored at least 25% of Delta's points. Another player making a difference was Jackson Wors, who scored 14 points along with 4 steals.
Centerville's loss came despite strong showings from Trevor Thornburg and Nathan Dickenson. Thornburg scored 8 points, while Dickenson scored 4 points.
Even though they lost, Centerville were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Delta only racked up 18.
Delta's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Centerville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Delta will look to defend their home court on Friday against Yorktown at 7:30 p.m. As for Centerville, they will head out on the road to face off against Daleville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Daleville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
