The El Capitan Gauchos entered their tilt with the Merced Bears with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. El Capitan snuck past Merced with a 62-58 victory on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Braylen Centeno was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Ultreras, who scored nine points along with three steals.
El Capitan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. As for Merced, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-12.
El Capitan will take on Buhach Colony at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Buhach Colony has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28. As for Merced, they will be playing at home against Central Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Central Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1060th, while Merced is ranked 506th).
