Los Angeles CES hasn't had much luck against Venice recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Unicorns will challenge the Gondoliers at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Los Angeles CES will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Fairfax, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Unicorns put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 17-4 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Unicorns, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Julie Segel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off 13 hits (and not a single walk). Segel was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Los Angeles CES got a massive performance out of Dhalia Rocha, who went 3-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Rocha a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marylin Rocha, who went 3-for-6 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Los Angeles CES always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Venice waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Gondoliers have posted since March 27th.
Violet Acensio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Sandy Carrera was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Venice pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Los Angeles CES, their record is now 4-5.
