Sumner-Eddyville-Miller has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Amherst Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ansley/Litchfield 65-32 at home. Given Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Ansley/Litchfield is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Mikah O'Neill, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals, and Taryn Arbuthnot, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. O'Neill has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayleigh Jackson, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Amherst waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 41-31 win over Pleasanton.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller pushed their record up to 14-1 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.73 points. As for Amherst, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller couldn't quite finish off Amherst in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 and fell 61-58. Can Sumner-Eddyville-Miller avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
