The Burroughs Bears will face off against the Crescenta Valley Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Crescenta Valley will be up against a hot Burroughs squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Bears blew past Glendale 16-2 on Tuesday.
Kalani Miramontes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Miramontes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Morales, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Haven Vickers, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Burroughs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glendale only posted an OBP of .231.
Meanwhile, Crescenta Valley got themselves on the board against Pasadena on Tuesday, but Pasadena never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Bulldogs. The win was familiar territory for the Falcons, who have now won three games in a row.
Like Burroughs, Crescenta Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Carley Mulcahey. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Mulcahey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Chloe Mulcahey looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mila Reddy was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Jasmine Hernandez was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double.
Crescenta Valley pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Burroughs, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burroughs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .401. However, it's not like Crescenta Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .417. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burroughs came out on top in a nail-biter against Crescenta Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
