The Germantown Red Devils will head out to take on the Whitehaven Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Germantown after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Memphis Central. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Marquis McPherson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Johnathan Rudd, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Whitehaven duked it out with Southwind on Thursday. Whitehaven lost 15-7 to Southwind. The loss put an end to the Tigers' undefeated start to the season.
Jaylon Dodson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Dedrick Marshall was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two stolen bases.
Even though they lost, Whitehaven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .571 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Germantown now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Whitehaven, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 1-1-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Germantown has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Whitehaven struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Germantown couldn't quite get it done against Whitehaven in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can Germantown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
