The Pierce Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Winters Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pierce will be strutting in after a win while Winters will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Pierce strolled past Durham with points to spare, taking the game 35-18.
Pierce's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Alfonso Orozco, who rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and David Aguirre, who rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Gomez, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Meanwhile, Winters unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to Colusa on the road by a decisive 35-20 margin.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Sebastian Rodriguez, who rushed for 161 yards on only 15 carries. Rodriguez was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Colton Brown, who threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes.
Pierce's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Winters, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Pierce has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 233.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Winters struggles in that department as they've been even better at 262.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Pierce beat Winters 29-21 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pierce since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
