Jefferson has gone a perfect 10-0 against Martinsburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cougars will challenge the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jefferson has six straight wins, Martinsburg has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Jefferson barely beat Musselman the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars put the hurt on the Applemen with a sharp 9-1 victory on Saturday. Considering the Cougars have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Becca Munslow made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Allen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Alissa Darr was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases.
Jefferson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Martinsburg came up short against Hampshire on Saturday, falling 16-7.
Kamyia Cole-Redman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hailey Kelican, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Jefferson's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Martinsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Martinsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Martinsburg, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Jefferson keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Everything went Jefferson's way against Martinsburg when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Jefferson made off with a 24-0 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
