4A Narrows recap October 22, 2013
Gig Harbor was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Olympia. The Tides came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Gig Harbor and the Bears played the closest game in 4A Narrows this week, with Gig Harbor eventually emerging with a 27-21 victory. Sterling Brown ran for 309 yards in the win.
Aaron Chantler's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Connor Scanlan threw for 96 yards and Bobby Blaser had 87 yards receiving. On the ground Brown contributed 309 yards. Noah Samsen helped Gig Harbor's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 44 yards.
Brown provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Tides topped Olympia. Brown's key target this week was Blaser, who caught 7 passes for 87 yards.
Brown was a force in the backfield as Gig Harbor beat Bill Beattie's team.
Hunter Talen made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Tides topped the Bears. The 5-foot-10 defensive back grabbed 1 interception.
Brown was the most successful running back in the league this week. Teammate Davis Alexander added to the ground attack by rushing for 31 yards.
Gig Harbor's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Tides feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Scanlan has thrown for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Santana Johnson has 21 catches for 366 yards.
Brown of the Gig Harbor is only 2 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 140 carries Brown has put up 998 yards this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Bellarmine Prep takes on Olympia. The Lions are in second place, while the Bears are in fourth place.
