Cedar Bluff and Sand Rock are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Tigers challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Saturday, everything went Cedar Bluff's way against Section as Cedar Bluff made off with a 13-7 victory. Considering the Tigers have won five games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Chambers made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Chambers was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Cedar Bluff got a massive performance out of Kuper Bradley, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Hunter Stallings also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen bases of the season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Sand Rock and Geraldine, and Sand Rock kept the tradition alive. Sand Rock fell just short of Geraldine by a score of 18-17 on Friday. Even though they lost, the Wildcats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 7.4 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Lathan Amos was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Sand Rock is 2-1 when Amos posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Holland, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Even though they lost, Sand Rock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Sand Rock dropped their record down to 3-4 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Cedar Bluff, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Cedar Bluff beat Sand Rock 9-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cedar Bluff since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
