The Dell City Cougars lost against the Van Horn Eagles back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Dell City was dealt a 76-44 defeat at the hands of Van Horn. Dell City has struggled against Van Horn recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Dell City still got an impressive performance from Reyes Espinoza, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Espinoza scored a full 47.7% of Dell City's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Tate, who scored eight points.
It was another big night for Gio Corralez, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds for Van Horn. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Joey Anchondo, who scored 14 points.
Dell City has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Van Horn, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Dell City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Marfa at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Van Horn will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Balmorhea at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Balmorhea will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
