Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Lawrence Lions, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 48-6 loss at the hands of Derby on Friday. Lawrence's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Banks Bowen threw for 147 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Wingerd was his top target, picking up 61 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Tony Jacobsen rushed for 38 yards.
Braxton Clark looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 231 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84.2% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Da?saahn Brame did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Lawrence's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Derby, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Lawrence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Derby will head out on the road to face off against Manhattan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Manhattan is ranked ninth, while Derby is ranked fifth).
