The Leroy Bears fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Washington County Bulldogs on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 62-49 to the Bulldogs. Leroy's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Leroy's loss came despite strong showings from Chauncey Dixon and Marley Dixon. Dixon dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 rebounds, while Dixon scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Dixon hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. Makayla Payne was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds.
Leroy's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Washington County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
Leroy will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Citronelle at 6:00 p.m. Citronelle is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Washington County, they will head out on the road to challenge Clarke County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clarke County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 248th, while Washington County is ranked 91st).
