The Powell Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Maryville Red Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Powell had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Webb on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans a 16-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Nevaeh Wells was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Jaylan Heatherly also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Powell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Webb only posted an OBP of .100.
Meanwhile, Maryville got the win against Jefferson County on Monday by a conclusive 14-4. That's two games straight that the Red Rebels have won by exactly ten runs.
Sadie Johnson looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Maryville let Harper White and Macey Hemphill run wild. White went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs, while Hemphill scored four runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Maples, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Powell's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Maryville, their record is now 11-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Powell hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Maryville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Powell came out on top in a nail-biter against Maryville in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
