Basketball Game Preview: Northeastern Eagles vs. First Flight Nighthawks

Northeastern is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while First Flight is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Both will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, everything went Northeastern's way against Camden County as Northeastern made off with a 58-34 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Bruins are ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northeastern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eleck Sutton, who posted 13 points and eight boards. Sutton has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Unique Blount, who earned ten points and three steals.

Northeastern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, First Flight was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Hertford County 71-33.

First Flight is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Northeastern, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.

Northeastern couldn't quite finish off First Flight in their previous meeting back in January and fell 54-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of First Flight's Mason Dobie, who had 26 points. Now that Northeastern knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
