Midlothian Heritage is 1-0 against Corsicana since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Midlothian Heritage Jaguars will be playing at home against the Corsicana Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Midlothian Heritage has eight straight victories, Corsicana has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Midlothian Heritage ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Ennis 38-35. Given Midlothian Heritage's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Ennis is ranked 163rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carter Rutenbar looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 87 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Rutenbar is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Jordan Soto did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in four field goals and two extra points.
Meanwhile, Corsicana took a serious blow against Mansfield Summit on Friday, falling 55-14. Corsicana was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.
Darelle Smith put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Smith's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.
Midlothian Heritage's win bumped their season record to 7-0 while Corsicana's defeat dropped theirs to 2-5.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Midlothian Heritage has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 158.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Corsicana struggles in that department as they've been even better at 160 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Midlothian Heritage against Corsicana in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 56-24 win. Will Midlothian Heritage repeat their success, or does Corsicana have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
