The Big Sandy Red Devils lost against the McKenzie Rebels back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Big Sandy took a serious blow against McKenzie, falling 96-35. While losing is never fun, Big Sandy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while McKenzie is ranked 76th).
Despite the loss, Big Sandy still got an impressive performance from Bailey Berry, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. That was a full 68.6% of Big Sandy's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Big Sandy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-4) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Big Sandy dropped their record down to 2-17 with that loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for McKenzie, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Big Sandy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Waverly Central at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Big Sandy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday. As for McKenzie, they will head out on the road to challenge Big Sandy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Big Sandy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
