On Thursday, Concord Academy came up short against Freedom and fell 48-35. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Concord Academy came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Freedom is ranked 136th).
Concord Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Justice Alexander, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Alexander scored a full 31.4% of Concord Academy's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Aaliyah Mack was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Concord Academy's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-2. As for Freedom, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Concord Academy will take on Metrolina Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Alaina Griffin and Alexander. Freedom will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hibriten at 6:30 p.m. on January 12, 2024.
