2A District 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Champagnat Catholic was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 2A District 8. The Lions defeated South Florida HEAT 42-0 earlier in the week.
Dade Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Reagan, 14-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Gregory La Stella and Gregory La Stella gave South Florida HEAT a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. La Stella threw for 48 yards, while La Stella ran for 18 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback La Stella of South Florida HEAT is the league leader in passing yards this season with 349. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, Dade Christian's Gary Sampson has rushed for 428 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Terrence Alls. The Dade Christian star has five catches for 109 yards.
Mike Sonneborn's team moved up to 105 from 143 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A District 8. A 14-13 win over Reagan helped the Crusaders improve their standing.
