Basketball Game Preview: Weddington Warriors vs. Porter Ridge Pirates

Weddington is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Porter Ridge is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Weddington Warriors will welcome the Porter Ridge Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Weddington strolled past East Mecklenburg with points to spare, taking the game 56-41. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Eagles are ranked 400th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Weddington found their leader in sophomore Caroline Clark, who posted 11 points and eight steals. With that strong performance, Clark is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Walker, who earned nine points.

Weddington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Porter Ridge). They came out on top against Monroe by a score of 81-68 on Wednesday.

Porter Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Weddington, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Weddington came up short against Porter Ridge in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 66-61. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Porter Ridge's Ashanti Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 37 points and ten steals.
