Thompson Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 17-7 win over the Berthoud Spartans. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their 15th in a row dating back to last season.
Thompson Valley was led to victory by Tristin Hill and Finley Lucas. Hill rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs, while Lucas threw for 200 yards on only 17 passes. Those 200 passing yards gave Lucas a new career-high.
Thompson Valley's run defense was locked in: Berthoud could only muster 1.3 yards per carry. The Eagles' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.3.
Coming up, Thompson Valley will face off against Greeley Central at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Berthoud, they will square off against Moffat County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
