Papillion-LaVista South has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Papillion-LaVista South Titans and the Elkhorn South Storm will round out the year against one another at 1:45 p.m. on Friday at. Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 12 more assists than your opponent, a fact Papillion-LaVista South proved on Tuesday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 72-54 victory over Westview. Given Papillion-LaVista South's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Westview is ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bryson Bahl continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. The contest was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wes Frost, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Elkhorn South scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Omaha Northwest 83-53 on the road. That 83-53 margin sets a new team best for Elkhorn South this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elkhorn South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cooper Mroczek, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mroczek scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Aidan Skradis, who scored 20 points.
Papillion-LaVista South's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Elkhorn South, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Papillion-LaVista South hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 64.9 points per game. However, it's not like Elkhorn South struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 55 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Papillion-LaVista South was able to grind out a solid victory over Elkhorn South in their previous matchup last Saturday, winning 61-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Papillion-LaVista South since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
