Basketball Recap: Chaparral Falls Short Against Ranked Pine Creek

On Saturday, Chaparral faced Pine Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Chaparral Wolverines fell 60-52 to the Pine Creek Eagles. The Wolverines have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Chaparral lost, don't look at Lauren Thompson. Despite the final result, she posted 27 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The game was Thompson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jade Monroe, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 11 points.

Brooklyn Stewart had an outrageously good game for Pine Creek as she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 19 rebounds. Stewart is crushing it when it comes to points: she's scored at least 17 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leekaya Burke-Perryman, who had 13 points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Having lost for the first time this season, Chaparral fell to 2-1. As for Pine Creek, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Chaparral wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 65-41 victory against Grand Junction on the 12th. As for Pine Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-42 win against Life Prep on the 13th.
