After two games on the road, Edmond Santa Fe is heading back home. They will take on The Union Redhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Edmond Santa Fe didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Norman, but they still walked away with a 52-48 victory. Given Edmond Santa Fe's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Norman is ranked 58th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Demarius Robinson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 311 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Robinson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Daniel Newton was another key contributor, rushing for 64 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Union had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 51.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They claimed a resounding 46-7 victory over Mustang at home. The result was nothing new for Union, who have now won five matchups by 33 points or more so far this season.
Boston Carrasco and Jordan Schelling were among the main playmakers for Union as the former rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown and the latter rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns. Carrasco's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards. Jino Boyd did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 88 receiving yards.
Edmond Santa Fe's win was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 5-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Yukon and 2-5 Norman (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.6% over those games). Union has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven games, giving them a 6-1 record.
We should be in store for an exciting game Thursday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Edmond Santa Fe has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 426.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Union struggles in that department as they've been even better at 433 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Edmond Santa Fe was taken down by Union 62-21 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Edmond Santa Fe have more luck at home instead of on the road?
