Baseball Recap: Castlewood Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Castlewood's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let the Thomas Walker Pioneers get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Blue Devils have won nine matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jasper Salyers and Aden Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Salyers kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Phillips tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Salyers a new career-high. At the plate, Salyers got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Phillips went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Phillips has become a key player for Castlewood: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Castlewood got a massive performance out of Jake Bush, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Bush has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Houchins, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Castlewood is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Thomas Walker, their loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Looking ahead, Castlewood will welcome Cornerstone Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Thomas Walker, they will challenge J.I. Burton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
