Last Thursday, Cardinal O'Hara was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-39 to St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute. Cardinal O'Hara has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cardinal O'Hara's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kels Ivey, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Simmarion Threet, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bishop Timon-St. Jude put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 90-80 win over Nichols. Given Bishop Timon-St. Jude's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Nichols is ranked 195th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Timon-St. Jude relied on the efforts of Jaiden Harrison, who scored 24 points along with five assists and two steals, and Nakyhi Harris, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds. Jacob Humphrey was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Cardinal O'Hara has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Cardinal O'Hara have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 50.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Bishop Timon-St. Jude struggles in that department as they've nailed 47.2% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
