This season hasn't been kind to the South Effingham Mustangs, who are still winless after their 12th matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 83-53 loss at the hands of Evans. South Effingham has not had much luck with Evans recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why South Effingham lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Corbin McGuire. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with six assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McGuire has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Will Harlin, who scored 14 points along with three steals and three blocks.
South Effingham bumped their record down to 0-12 with that loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Evans, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Effingham's road trip will continue as they head out to face Glynn Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Glynn Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Effingham in Georgia (Glynn Academy is ranked 44th, while South Effingham is ranked 490th). As for Evans, they will head out on the road to square off against Groves on Monday. One thing working in Groves' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
