The Green Canyon Wolves will head out to face off against the West Field Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Green Canyon turned things around against Ogden on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Tigers 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since March 11th.
Kylee Hickman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Hickman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Hickman wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Olson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, West Field waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Mustangs 11-5. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
West Field let Ella Doxey and Rylee Andreasen run wild. Doxey went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles, while Andreasen scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Brylee Leatherwood, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
West Field kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
West Field's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Green Canyon, their record now sits at 6-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Green Canyon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like West Field struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Green Canyon suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to West Field in their previous meeting last Monday. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
