After flying high against the Two Roads Charter School Falcons last Thursday, the Weldon Valley Warriors came back down to earth. Weldon Valley was beaten by Otis 55-14 on Tuesday. Weldon Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-6.
When it comes to explaining why Weldon Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ellie Koch. Despite the final result, she scored two points along with six rebounds and two steals. Koch hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Weldon Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Otis racked up 20 assists.
Otis found their leader in underclassman Aedyn Tribelhorn, who scored 19 points along with eight steals and six assists. That's the first time this season that Tribelhorn scored 15 or more points. Alli Hornung was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Weldon Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Otis, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weldon Valley will square off against Deer Trail at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Deer Trail is ranked 258th, while Weldon Valley is ranked 246th). Otis will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Briggsdale at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Briggsdale is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
