Softball Recap: Williams Wins Going Away Against Hayden

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Williams ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They blew past the Hayden Lobos 13-7. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Lobos: they've now won five in a row.

Danika Howe was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenzie Orozco, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Samantha Amaya was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Williams' win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Hayden, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.

Williams has already played their next game, an 11-7 victory against Superior on the 19th. As for Hayden, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 21-1 loss against Poston Butte on the 20th.
