The Priest River Spartans will face off against the Aberdeen Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aberdeen will be up against a hot Priest River team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Spartans breezed past Kellogg to the tune of 48-14 two weeks ago. The Spartans' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Priest River's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Layton Goins, who picked up 116 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Goins also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making seven total tackles and defending one pass.
Priest River's run defense was locked in: Kellogg could only muster 2.7 yards per carry. While one picked up at least seven total tackles, Goins stood above the rest. He picked up 116 receiving yards and two TDs. Priest River didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.9.

Priest River's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Brady Hatten was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Priest River is undefeated when Hatten posts one or more sacks, but 2-4 otherwise.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Aberdeen had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 28-6 win. The Tigers pushed the score to 20-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs had little chance of recovering from.
Priest River better keep an eye on Erik Alvarez. He was instrumental in Aberdeen's win, rushing for 83 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries. Jovanny Valeriano also deserves some recognition as he posted his first receiving yards of the season.
Aberdeen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Valeriano.
Aberdeen's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Priest River, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
