Mount View is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Summers County an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Mount View Golden Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Summers County Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. Mount View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.7 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Mount View didn't have quite enough to beat Greater Beckley Christian and fell 7-6.
Phoebe Dudgeon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kayleigh Rose made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Summers County scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 10-6 to Greater Beckley Christian. That's two games in a row now that the Bobcats have lost by exactly four runs.
Samantha Cales was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Haley Ratliff, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Summers County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Mount View, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 11-6.
Summers County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mount View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. It's a different story for Summers County, though, as they've only averaged .171. Will they be able to contain Mount View's hitters?
Mount View took their victory against Summers County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-5 score. Do the Golden Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
