Baseball Recap: Aurora's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Aurora can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They came out on top against the Fairbury Jeffs by a score of 17-12. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sawyer Kiner and Dane Comer were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Kiner pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Comer didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Kiner scored a run while going 1-for-5, while Comer went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that Comer hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briggston Winfrey, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Ronnau, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Aurora's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Fairbury, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Aurora will head out to take on Central City/Centura at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Kernels will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Huskies surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fairbury, they will face off against Louisville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jeffs are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
