A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Opp Bobcats challenge the Straughn Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday... Opp is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Opp lost to Bullock County on the road by a 51-32 margin.
Despite their loss, Opp saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alan Jones, who posted eight points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Jeshurun Crittenden was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 56 points the game before, Straughn was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. 2025 welcomed they with a 52-26 loss courtesy of Bullock County. The matchup marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Clark Gay was Straughn's leading scorer, having posted five points. Noah Fowler held things down on the boards with six rebounds. Clark Jordan took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Straughn's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Opp, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Opp has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Straughn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Opp came up short against Straughn when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 57-47. Will Opp have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
