The Elizabeth Minutemen had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They walked away with a 63-53 victory over St. Joseph. Given Elizabeth's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while St. Joseph is ranked 56th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
London Carson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Johnson, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Elizabeth has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for St. Joseph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.
Elizabeth will be playing at home against Union at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Weequahic at 2:30 p.m. on January 21st. Weequahic is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.2 points per game.
