The Montpelier Locomotives will square off against the Edgerton Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Edgerton took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Montpelier, who comes in off a win.
While Montpelier's win against Hilltop wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Locomotives skirted past the Cadets 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Locomotives have posted since May 10, 2024.
Wesley Hartsock and Hayden Sharps made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hartsock tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Sharps tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Hartsock scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Sharps scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, CJ Fidler was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Stahler, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Edgerton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 7-3 to Liberty Center.
Edgerton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cory Herman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Montpelier has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs this season. As for Edgerton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
Everything went Montpelier's way against Edgerton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Montpelier made off with a 9-2 victory. Do the Locomotives have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
