Basketball Recap: Matthew Barrett's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jupiter Christian over St. Edward's

Jupiter Christian lost against St. Edward last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jupiter Christian Eagles took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Edward's Pirates. The Eagles' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Jupiter Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Barrett, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. The game was Barrett's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Rivera, who posted seven points and 16 rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Edward's to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cody Simmonds, who earned 16 points and three steals. Simmonds is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gary Anderson, who had three points in addition to eight boards and eight blocks.

Jupiter Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for St. Edward's, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Jupiter Christian will take on Pine at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Edward's, they and Florida Prep will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. St. Edward's is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
