3A Metro - West recap September 24, 2013
Fans got a thrill when James Willis and Joshua Claussen connected against Summit. The connection was good for 79 yards, the longest such play in 3A Metro - West this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Lutheran beat the Tigers 48-2,. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Lions.
Willis threw for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 5-5 with 0 interception.
Jack Curtis provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Evergreen defeated Conifer. He completed 14 passes for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 136 yards. Curtis' key target this week was Marcus Cassin, who caught 9 passes for 147 yards.
Willis put up the best numbers in passing as Lutheran beat Summit. Willis' favorite target this week was Claussen, who caught 2 passes for 89 yards.
Cassin was the best receiver in the league this week as the Cougars defeated the Lobos. Kip Nilson helped Evergreen's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 23 yards.
Curtis was the most successful running back in 3A Metro - West this week. Teammate Joe Danni added to the ground attack by rushing for 32 yards.
D'Evelyn's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Jaguars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Connor Mateer has thrown for 891 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Ty McGee has 24 catches for 495 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Daryl Moe's team takes on Conifer. At the moment, the Lions are in first, while Larry Fitzmaurice's team is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lutheran takes on the Lobos. The Lions have allowed 15 points this season, while Conifer has given up 52. Lutheran allowed 2 points last week as it bested Dylan Hollingsworth's team.
Arvada lost to Eagle Valley 62-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Travin Haris was a bright spot for the Bulldogs, as he ran for 50 yards and caught 4 passes for 58 yards in the loss.
